I didn't think that kind of approach would work for The Lion King. ![]() Beauty & The Beast had already made the leap to the stage and it was very much a replica of the animated movie. When I first heard that a musical was being contemplated for The Lion King, I was concerned it would attempt to be too literal. She is also a producer of the 2019 remake of The Lion King. Taymor's work has received many accolades from critics, and she is best known for directing the musical, The Lion King, for which she became the first woman to win the Tony Award for directing a musical, in addition to a Tony Award for Original Costume Design. Julie Taymor (born December 15, 1952) is an American theater, opera, and film director. They'd be participants in the entire event. Stage mechanics would be visible, the audience, given the hint or suggestion of an idea, would be ready to fill in the lines, to take it the rest of the way. ![]() I wanted audiences to take a leap of faith and imagination right from the start.
